DEAR NEIGHBOR,
Since my election in 2020, I have been committed to providing exceptional city services, advancing our housing and climate goals, improving energy resilience and reliability, restoring faith, trust and civility in our government, and promoting the progressive policies that make Ann Arbor a great place to live, work, study, recreate, raise a family, and eventually retire.
In 2022, I was honored to be chosen by my Council colleagues to serve as the first openly-gay Mayor Pro Tem in over two decades to help lead the most diverse City Council in Ann Arbor's history. Throughout my first term, my Council colleagues and I have consistently delivered upon the promises we made to Ann Arbor.
These are just a few of the many accomplishments that our progressive City Council has delivered over the last few years, but I'm running for re-election, because while Ann Arbor is already a great place to live, our work is not finished.
After decades of federal, state and local policies contributing to our housing, affordability and climate crises, we still have work to do to ensure that the Ann Arbor of tomorrow is a prosperous, inclusive and desirable place for all of our families. I am proud to have the support of many leaders in our community, and over the coming months, I hope to earn your support as well. I look forward to talking with you soon.
All the Best,
In 2022, I was honored to be chosen by my Council colleagues to serve as the first openly-gay Mayor Pro Tem in over two decades to help lead the most diverse City Council in Ann Arbor's history. Throughout my first term, my Council colleagues and I have consistently delivered upon the promises we made to Ann Arbor.
- I supported investment in new affordable housing, and voted for responsible growth to increase Ann Arbor's housing supply, including along our city's major transit corridors.
- I led the charge to expand tenants' rights -- spearheading the creation of Michigan's first municipal Renters Commission, and establishing a right-to-renew for renters to prevent unjust evictions.
- I have been a consistent advocate to fix our crumbling roads, and voted for additional investment to accelerate street repairs and to make them safe and accessible for all users.
- I supported historic investments in our sustainability work to make progress toward our climate goals, and worked to hold utilities accountable for widespread outages and infrastructure failures.
- I have been a leader on human rights, championing a successful amendment to Ann Arbor's non-discrimination ordinance to outlaw race-based hair discrimination, securing new investments in City equity initiatives, and winning approval of a ban on anti-LGBTQ conversion therapy.
- I have also consistently led efforts to improve transparency and accountability -- to ensure equal opportunity for minority & women-owned businesses in contracting and procurement, to establish public-facing performance dashboards to daylight progress toward our goals, to establish clear and transparent processes for the sale of City property, and to hold former Council colleagues accountable for misconduct.
